Uenono

Uenono sits in the foothills near Naruko Onsen, a quiet hot springs town in northwestern Miyagi. The mountain is compact—just 100 meters of vertical—with terrain split heavily toward beginner runs and mellow intermediate pitches. The steepest line tops out around 27 degrees, so this is not a place for steep-slope hunting. Two pair lifts move riders up the hill, and the resort typically operates weekends and holidays only, from early January through early March.

The draw here is straightforward: a low-pressure family hill with rental gear on-site and proximity to onsen culture. Snowboarders make up 40 percent of the riding split. The tradeoff is real—recent seasons have been unreliable (the 2023-2024 season didn't open at all due to snow shortage), and weekday closures mean you need to plan around weekend windows. If you're chasing vertical or varied terrain, look elsewhere. If you want a mellow local experience with hot springs nearby, Uenono fits the bill.
