Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen

Sitting in the northern reaches of Gujo City, Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen rides the northern slopes of Mt Bishamondake with a straightforward 276m vertical and three chairlifts. The terrain split favors beginners and intermediates, but there's real powder and tree riding mixed in—backcountry courses and powder areas run top to bottom, which is where the mountain shows its character on fresh snow days. Snowboarders make up 60% of the crowd here, so the vibe skews that way.

The layout is open and relatively forgiving, though you'll encounter flat sections and run-outs that demand momentum management. Wind holds on the upper mountain are a real factor, so flexibility matters. The base sits at 1000m and the season typically runs from December through April, with reliable snow-making to bridge early-season gaps. Lessons and rentals are available, and there's a kids' area with a long sled course that keeps families occupied.

This is car-country skiing—train access is limited, so most riders drive from the Kansai region (Nagoya, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka). The resort becomes a golf course in summer, and the surrounding Gujo region has ten ski areas within reach, making it a logical stop on a multi-resort tour rather than a destination on its own.
