Chisenupuri is a tiny, uncrowded powder gem near Niseko with serious snow and minimal infrastructure. The trade-off is no-frills facilities and a strong sulphur smell from the onsen at the base.

How it rides

Chisenupuri sits in the Niseko zone but feels like a secret. The mountain gets the same massive snowfall as Niseko United—frequent big dumps and the kind of powder that sticks around because almost nobody's there to track it out. The terrain is mellow and forgiving, with low-angle slopes and open off-piste that rewards powder riders of all levels, especially those still building their backcountry legs. Side-country access to the left of the resort offers short, sweet moderate-pitch lines marked "proceed at your own risk," and a marked snow bridge across the hot springs gets you back to the base in minutes.

The lift setup is minimal: a fast double chairlift that rarely has a line and a rope tow used mainly by army personnel. There's one groomed beginner run and two ungroomed intermediate runs, but the real draw is unrestricted tree and off-piste riding. The base facilities are bare-bones—a simple rest area, vending machines, and access to the hotel cafeteria and onsen. The onsen smell is real and takes some getting used to, but it's part of the charm. If you're chasing fresh tracks near Niseko without the crowds, Chisenupuri delivers. Just don't expect modern amenities or après-ski energy.
